Changes

How many people are going to pay the small fine rather than carry health insurance?  Then quickly sign up when they get an expensive disease or need an expensive operation due to pre-existing conditions?  Whose insurance premiums will go up so the insurance companies can continue to receive their ungodly excessively high profits?

Snow

Yesterday the weatherman said we would be getting 4" of snow.  Today he said  TEN!  Plus 35 mph winds--a blizzard is a-coming.
Packers vs Panthers.  I've lived in NC longer than WI, but am a die-hard Packers fan.  Let's hope they do better than last week!  I can still smell them--they stunk!

Mark has met his heavenly father

My nephew died on Wed., Nov. 19, 2008.  The date, not the year, is the same date both of my grandmothers died, and my father's date of death was yesterday, Nov. 22nd.
Think of all the relatives Mark is meeting and seeing again, as well as the wondrous feeling of meeting God!  Mark no longer has a big hole in his neck to breathe through, he is no longer in pain, and is now living the life of the utmost luxury.  I've been talking to him every night.  Is there a big adjustment?  Kind of like when you get a new job or change schools--are you apprehensive, or do you fit right in & feel comfortable immediately?   I think the latter is true.  He's playing with my dogs, talking to people he hasn't seen in a long time, he is NOT shovelling snow, & is basking in the glory of God.  I wonder if he will be assigned as someone's guardian angel.  I want to be a guardian angel when I die.  Think how cool that would be!  Helping Timmy catch his balance before he falls in the well.  Take the pressure off Lassie, who's pretty old now.
Have the car stop inches short of a potentially crash, whisper into someone's ear that drinking and drugs will NOT get you into heaven!  People have to not only ask God for His forgiveness for their sins, but have to go one step further--stop doing that crap that is taking them down the wrong path!
I found that out the hard way, but at least I did it!  I'm not a saint and am aware that temptations and slips are just a moment away, but have not had any intention to stray from the right path for a LONG time!
Monday we will be gathering to express our selfish sorrow at Mark's joyful entrance into the kingdom of God.

Where I lived vs where I live

I used to live in Raleigh, NC then became disabled and moved to Sheboygan, WI where my family lives.  Where I used to live, you got sick, went to the doctor and/or hospital, and came home all fixed up.  In Sheboygan, my nephew got cancer, went to Madison because the Sheboygan doctors were killing him, came back to Sheboygan & is on chemo & not getting better or worse.  Four of my high school friends from Sheboygan have died since I've been here.
Most recently, my sister had a mini-stroke.  She went to the hospital for 6 days, was scheduled for surgery, then that morning surgery was cancelled because the blockage was too big, so they sent her home.  She would never consider travelling to a REAL doctor, so now is just waiting for the blockage to kill her.  In Sheboygan, you don't get fixed.  The population has remained the same for over 50 years.  People get sick, they die.  Smart people move away or seek outside medical help.  What is the matter around here???

Anyone have an Ark?

Friday, Saturday, Sunday and the forecast for all next week:  rain, hail, lightning, thunder, wind, tornadoes.  And the south has a drought.  They can have some of our weather, that's for sure.  You can hadly see it's so dark all day, and VERY hard to be on the computer during this non-stop lightning!

Graduation

I really admire people who can go back to college after taking a few years off.  I took a few college courses after high school, but couldn't afford to continue on and get a degree.  Sunday my nephew is graduating from college, after taking time off to work, taking a year of school, time off to work, etc.  He finally made it!
My son-in-law graduated from college in 1997, then 2 years ago went on to law school.  He has one semester to go.  Hallelueah!  Perserverence and dedication to your goals is something I truly admire.

What's wrong with health care?

I was born in this small town (pop. 50,000), moved to another state, then came back 4 years ago.  Lived most of my life elsewhere, so now I only know a handful of people.  Most of them have cancer or have died of cancer.  Since I've been back, Lewis, Judy, Virginia, and Joseph have died of cancer.
My friends Donna and Mary are in hospice care; it won't be long for them.
My nephew has been receiving chemo for a year.  No change in his throat cancer.  So they're giving him radiation twice a week.  He had it yesterday, today he is in bed, he cannot talk, his body is covered with a rash that is now oozing blisters.  They are going to send him to Madison to try an unapproved drug therapy at the end of this month.  These people were fine.  They went in for physicals, got the chemicals pumped into their bodies, and laid in excruciating pain until they died, or are on their deathbeds.
Last year one prominent physician injected a painkiller into my mother's neck and hit a nerve.  She passed out and remained in the hospital for weeks, and it took 3 months of home recovery.  The doctor said it was the flu, changed it to "she was nervous" changed it to "I hit a nerve."
Kevin's dad had a cold, the doctors said.  He went to Mayo Clinic and was diagnosed with epilepsy.
Uncle Arno was diagnosed with terminal cancer.  He went to Mayo and was cured.
Do you have to be rich or have very good insurance to be able to survive?  Is the bottom 10% of all graduating med students practicing in my home town?  Success stories = zero.  And this is more than half of the people I know.  Wonder what the others on the obituary pages, aged 20's to 60's, died from?  Isn't there something called "dying of old age"?
I'm disabled, but it won't kill me.  If I ever find out I have a life-threatening diseease, I'm getting out of Dodge.

Brett Favre retires

A sad day in Wisconsin, not because there is still snow & ice up to our eyeballs or we haven't seen it as warm as 35 degrees in seemingly 35 years, but our hero has announced his retirement from the Green Bay Packers.  Even God gives a woman 9 months to prepare for a new baby in the house, but Brett has given us all reason to curl up and cry since we will never see him play football again.  His grin, his tears, his gentle  nature, famous Lambeau Leaps--we are all saddened.  Ok, he didn't die.  We'll still be seeing him, perhaps coaching some day, and he had to retire some time.  He is emotionally tired and strained, after 17 years in the NFL & in most people's eyes, the best QB who ever lived.  He brought our team back this past season, but said the strain of perhaps making it once again to the Super Bowl and lose--he could not take it.  Although he has played like a little kid, enjoying the game more than anyone, there is a lot of stress, studying plays, and things us average joe's know nothing about.  His decision was difficult, because he's struggled with it before.  God willing, Brett prayed for guidance, and we'll eventually get over it.  We'll never forget what he's done on the field, & he will continue his charities.
Brett, you are the best.  We will feel the emptiness when you are not starting at the first game this fall.

It goes on and on...

This is my 4th winter in the frozen tundra (WI) and this is the worst!  You can't get salt at the stores because someone else beat you to it, so we walk on glassy ice covered with slippery slush, drive through the streets of town that look like back dirt roads filled with potholes and ruts, but it's just the slush and snow that has frozen from the night before.  The pattern just won't quit:
below zero with high winds--it can't snow.
warm up to the 20's so it CAN snow.
Repeat the above 2 steps every few days, cover with foil and put into a pre-heated oven for 30 minutes at 350 degrees---oops, that's not part of the recipe.
Ok, get on the computer, turn on the movies, and refrain from boredom.
Fortunately I live in an apartment and do not have to shovel.   Fortunately (?) I am disabled and do not have to start the car every morning to get to work, then scrape windows until you are literally blue in the face.
Do not dwell on what you do not have; rather, concentrate on what you do have.  It's better for your health.

The snow

Here in southeast Wis, it is either below zero (50 below, counting the windchill!) or it is snowing.  Warms up into the 20's and then snows.  We've had over 50" of snow  this season, and it's not over yet!  Sure am looking forward to spring.
